The Washington Nationals trade infielder Daniel Murphy to the Chicago Cubs.

Murphy, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, has six home runs and 29 RBI in 205 plate appearances for the Nationals this season. He is also batting .300 and has an on-base percentage of .341 during the campaign.

The Cubs will send minor league infielder Andruw Monasterio and a player to be named later, or cash considerations.

Monasterio, 21 hit three home runs and driven in 31 RBI for the Class-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans this season. He also stole 10 bases in 109 games played this season.

The Nats alsofirst baseman Matt Adams to the St. Louis Cardinals.  Adams is hitting .257 with 18 home runs and 48 RBIs in 94 games. He’s hit a bit of a rough patch lately, batting 0-for-21 since August 5t.
